Ambassador Sonya Cassidy visits our South Weston setting

This Small Charity Week (22–29 June), Springboard Opportunity Group is proud to be part of a national celebration of the vital role small charities play in communities across the UK.

This year’s campaign, “Small charities. Big impact.”, shines a light on the difference small charities make every day, supporting people, strengthening communities and creating change where it matters most.

As part of Small Charity Week, our long-time ambassador and actor Sonya Cassidy spent a morning in our South Weston setting playing with the children, talking with staff and understanding the impact that we are making within this community.

Sonya said “Springboard Opportunity Group celebrates it’s 40th anniversary this year. For a small charity this is a tremendous achievement and one I’m thrilled to mark this Small Charities Week. I recently visited their South Weston setting. The children are happy and thriving, whatever their needs and the staff are dedicated to making sure those needs are met in such a nuanced and compassionate way. I can’t imagine North Somerset without Springboard. It is, and always has been, a lifeline for little ones and their families. Long may it continue its vital, wonderful work. Here’s to the next 40 and beyond!.”

Our South Weston setting provides specialist early years education, parenting support, family support, Stay and Play sessions, practical advice and guidance, and access to wider services. Alongside specialist support for children, Springboard provides families with trusted guidance, advocacy and reassurance during what can often be a challenging and isolating journey.

Springboard’s 2024/25 Impact Report demonstrates strong outcomes for children and families. During the year, 100% of children made progress in Personal, Social and Emotional Development and 92% made progress in Communication and Language. In addition, 95% of families reported feeling well or extremely well supported. Full details can be found in the 2024/25 Impact Report on our website.

Across the country, small charities provide support that larger organisations often cannot, building trusted relationships and responding quickly to local needs. Their contribution is felt not only by the people they support but by the wider communities around them.

At a time when many communities are facing increasing pressure, small charity’s role including our own, has never been more important.

Ruth Glover, CEO of Springboard, said; “Small charities often provide support that cannot be found elsewhere. They understand local communities, build trusted relationships and respond to needs that might otherwise go unmet. Small Charity Week is an opportunity to recognise that contribution and to ensure that the voices of small charities and the people they support are heard.”

Small Charity Week is a moment to recognise and back the work of small charities across the UK, because when small charities thrive, communities thrive.
