Skydive for Springboard

19 year old Laurie Turpin is planning to make a parachute jump in order to raise funds for local children’s charity, Springboard Opportunity Group.

On February 18th, Laurie, who works as an outdoor pursuits instructor for a company in Cornwall called Adventure International, will jump from a height of almost 3 miles above Dunkeswell Airfield in Hontion, Devon.

He said: “I am really into high-adrenalin adventure sports, such as climbing and surf kayaking, so I’m really looking forward to having a go at sky-diving. It’s a great opportunity for me, and a great chance to raise some much-needed funds for Springboard.

“My Mum has worked there for over 21 years so I have pretty much grown up with it, and I know the importance of the charity to my mum. I am also aware that it is the 25 anniversary of Spring Board so it is a great time to do something big to raise important funds for the charity.

“This is a cause very close to me, as I help 'buddy' a little lad with special needs myself. His name is JJ, and he’s aged 11. I take him out most weekends. Recently, we’ve been to @Bristol, bowling and the cinema, although his favourite is crazy golf, and he always manages to beat me at it!”

Springboard’s Promotions Officer, Gareth Powell, said: “As a charity and service-provider, we receive part of our funding from the local authority; but we have to rely on fundraising and individual donations to provide the rest. So we’re especially grateful to people like Laurie, who go above-and-beyond in order to raise the funds we need to continue our invaluable work”
